2012 was the biggest year ever for electronic dance music (EDM). It exploded into the main stream and popular culture, invading the airwaves, concert venues, TV comercials, and just about everywhere else. For fans of house, dubstep, drum & bass, trance, techno, trap, and beyond, there is one event that is circled on their calendar every year. It is the Super Bowl, World Series, Oscars, Halloween, Grammys, your birthday, and your wedding day all rolled into one. It is Ultra Music Festival.
The center piece of Miami Music Week, Ultra has always been three days of EDM heaven in South Florida. Nearly every DJ and Live Act you’ve ever heard of (and many that you haven’t) descend on the festival to play on the multitude of stages scattered across Bayfront Park in downtown Miami.
In 2013, for the 15th anniversary of the festival, it’s double the pleasure and double the fun. For the first time ever, Ultra is expanding to two full weekends. Weekend 1 will take place from March 15th-17th. Weekend 2 will take place March 22nd-24th. Both weekends boast many of the same names (albeit not always on the same stage) but there are a few acts that will only be playing one weekend or the other.
With only a few exceptions, the line-up is literally a who’s who of EDM relevance. The headliners include names like Tiesto, Deadmau5, Carl Cox, Above & Beyond, AVICII, Fatboy Slim, Afrojack, Armin Van Buuren, Kaskade, Bassnectar, David Guetta, and Swedish House Mafia (who will play their last ever show on March 24th). Check out the full line-up (Phases 1 & 2) on the flyer image above. Don’t forget to breathe.
Ultra is so packed with talent that many of the DJ’s appearing on the middle and bottom portion of the line-up readily headline and sell-out their own international tours.
Independent Philly was all over Bayfront Park for Ultra 2012, talking to fans, conducting interviews (with the likes of Big Gigantic, Laidback Luke, Chase & Status, and Bassnectar), and bringing you top-notch daily photo galleries of many of your favorite performers! For 2013 we’ll be kicking it up another notch with even more interviews, more detailed set reviews, and more photos than you can imagine!
There is truly only one way to experience Ultra Music Festival and that is live and in person. We hope you’ll join us in Miami for two weekends of EDM Madness!
