We Like Our Nights Hot and Our Tunes Swanky

We felt like screaming with joy when we heard that Planet House was bringing Swanky Tunes to Philadelphia on Thursday, July 5th. Ironic because they were playing at Whisper in Rittenhouse Square.

Just one day after celebrating Independence Day in the city where America began, it was time for a Russian invasion in Philly.

It seemed like a heavy day of partying in the extreme heat on Wednesday kept the crowd at Whisper a little more thinned out than usual, but everyone who turned up was treated to a night of stellar house music (and had a great time in the process).

Aside from the headlining set by Swanky Tunes there was also a bevy of local support from DJs Amenzo & Speaker of the House, Johnny V, Zathan Radix, and Dirty Dave.

By the time Swanky Tunes hit the decks around midnight, a nice sized crowd had formed on the dance floor. The room could have been more packed or more empty and it wouldn’t have mattered. This was clearly a case of quality over quantity (of any size). The headliners threw down a tech infused house set that had everyone shaking their ass.

Summer Jamming with Comic Strips & Big Chocolate

The Summer of 2012 doesn’t officially begin until June 20th but on Friday, June 15th, there was a preview of the upcoming season at The Blockley as Dubsef presented Summer Jam.

Fans were encouraged to rock beach gear to the party which kicked off at 9pm with an opening set by the host.

Up next were sets from Dirty Dave followed by Johnny V (from House of Hearts) who kept the party rocking with more sick beats while go-go dancers glow hooped on stage.

Funny Pages is a synonym for Comic Strips but there was nothing humorous about the dirty set that Tom Holroyd threw down. It may not have been Summer yet but the crowd was definitely jamming.

Nothing says Summer like making S’mores around the campfire but instead of hot marshmallows melting Hershey bars, Big Chocolate hit the decks and melted more than a few faces with his bass-heavy track selection. When he wasn’t mixing or rocking the mic, he was jamming on stage as hard as the crowd in front of it.

At one point towards the end, he invited fans to get up on the stage and several ladies obliged.

The night was a sweet taste of what’s to come when Summer officially kicks off later this week.

Glow Jammin’ and We Hope You Like Glow Jammin’ Too

We wouldn’t be at all surprised if EDM fans, who partied into the wee morning hours at the Blockley last night, awoke this morning, still basking in the glow of a crazy good time.

Party people were literally basking in the glow of UV lighting all evening as they packed the venue starting at 8pm for Glow Jam. Presented by Dubsef, Glow Jam featured a line-up of many up-and-coming local DJ’s, as well as headliner DallasK from Orlando, FL.

Fans were encouraged to wear all white attire to the Blockley to add to the Glow theme. In addition to black-lighting, there was body painting by Bodypaint.ME, endless supplies of glow-bracelets, and several glow-hoopers. There were also several female dancers who appeared on the main stage, performing with the DJ’s.

The main room was split down the middle and divided into two separate areas, one for ages 18-20, and the other for those 21 and over. The was also a 2nd room open on the under 21 side that featured DJ’s Sweekuh, Jack Deezl, David Vaux, Amit Gera, and Ruff-Ducketz.

The party kicked off on the main stage just after 8pm with the band Nomad Tam. They were the only non-DJ act to perform.

Up next was Dirty Dave who, true to his name, dropped some dirty beats and laid a nice foundation for the rest of the night. At this point the under 21 area was quickly filling up, with a nice size crowd on the legal (drinking age) side as well.

The venue continued to fill up and the good times continued as BHB took over on the decks. A member of Actual Records, his name has been popping up at more and more events in the Philly and NYC area. Keep an eye on this guy.

What’s the best way to transition from a talented up-and-coming DJ to the headliner? With the event host of course. In addition to throwing Glow Jam and serving as the MC, Dubsef also threw down one hell of a set. His high energy track selection and antics on stage (he even took a moment for some Tebowing) make this guy a crowd favorite (as was evident from the “Dubsef” chants that rang out numerous times).

The glowing yellow star that was painted on his cheek may justĀ  be indicative of what the future holds for Dubsef. He’ll rock the decks, the mic, and the stage…just don’t ask him to drink any tap water, he hates that.

With the party at a fever pitch, and the Blockley more packed than we’ve ever seen it before, DallasK made his way to the stage and dropped a headliner worthy set on the crowd. The rest of the night was a hot, energy filled blur.

When it finally came to end, with fans chanting for one more song, the venue emptied out, revealing a sea of glow bracelets that covered the floor.

From there, the party continued at the Salty Taco at the Bodypaint.me studios.

Dubsef will be hosting the BASSment party on February 1st at Rumor when Art of Electronica presents a night with Nadastrom. He and BHB will both be playing opening sets.
