We Like Our Nights Hot and Our Tunes Swanky

We felt like screaming with joy when we heard that Planet House was bringing Swanky Tunes to Philadelphia on Thursday, July 5th. Ironic because they were playing at Whisper in Rittenhouse Square.

Just one day after celebrating Independence Day in the city where America began, it was time for a Russian invasion in Philly.

It seemed like a heavy day of partying in the extreme heat on Wednesday kept the crowd at Whisper a little more thinned out than usual, but everyone who turned up was treated to a night of stellar house music (and had a great time in the process).

Aside from the headlining set by Swanky Tunes there was also a bevy of local support from DJs Amenzo & Speaker of the House, Johnny V, Zathan Radix, and Dirty Dave.

By the time Swanky Tunes hit the decks around midnight, a nice sized crowd had formed on the dance floor. The room could have been more packed or more empty and it wouldn’t have mattered. This was clearly a case of quality over quantity (of any size). The headliners threw down a tech infused house set that had everyone shaking their ass.

Digitalism & Congorock: Double Dose of House at LiT

EDM fans were treated to a double dose of headliners on Thursday, June 14th at LiT Ultra Bar.

The event, presented by Planet House & Decibel, was the first ever at LiT to cater to the 18+ crowd.

While the room was physically divided by a barricade (to keep the under 21 year-olds out of the bar area), the room was musically united by the sweet sounds of Digitalism (DJ set) and Congorock.

The night started off slowly with few patrons on hand to catch the opening sets. As the night progressed however, fans began to pour in to catch Digitalism as they took to the decks just after 1130pm. The German duo of Jens “Jence” Moelle and Ä°smail “Isi” Tüfekçi threw down. The venue might not have been packed to the gills (actually leaving room to dance) but everyone there was getting down.

Shortly after 1am it was time for Congorock to take over and he slid into the booth seamlessly, keeping the high energy house tunes pumping through LiT’s impressive sound system.

The good times continued for several more hours before it was time to head home and conserve some energy for the weekend.

Nadia Ali & Starkillers Shine at Lit Ultra Bar

Lit Ultra Bar is one of the hottest new venues in the city and on Friday night, April 27th it played host to one of the hottest vocalists around, Nadia Ali.

Ali has been nominated for a Grammy, had a #1 hit on the Billboard charts, and has worked with many of the biggest DJs in the world. One thing she hadn’t done in her decade-plus of making killer club tunes was perform live in Philadelphia.

On Friday night, the guys at Planet House (with an assist from Element Events) changed that.

The doors opened just after 10:30pm and fans starting filing into the venue, buying up drinks and bottles, and getting down to an opening sets by DirtyDave, John G, & Zathan Radix.

Lit continued to fill in and around 1:00am Nadia Ali hit the stage (accompanied by two male dancers) and ran through a gauntlet of her hits as she danced around the stage in a sparkling dress. We apologize for the total lack of Nadia Ali photos but she insisted that she not be photographed.

The fun didn’t end when her performance was over as none other than world class DJ and producer Starkillers (Nick Terranova) took over on the decks and rocked the dance floor for the next two hours.

Planet House’s next offering to the Philly EDM scene comes on Thursday, May 10th when they present a night with Steve Lawler at Whisper.
